Bord Bia

Bord Bia supports the Irish food, drink, and horticulture industry through four key areas: 

  1.  Reputation: developing marketing campaigns at home and abroad to enhance the industry's reputation; 
  2. Insight: providing market and consumer intelligence to support industry growth;  
  3. Growth: building business capabilities for growth in priority markets; and  
  4. Talent: equipping graduates with necessary skills to drive industry growth through the Talent Academy. 

Who we are?

Bord Bia, an Irish state agency under the auspices of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, promotes Irish food, drink and horticulture suppliers at home and abroad. Sustainability is at the core of building Ireland’s reputation as a source of food and drink.  The quality assurance mark and Origin Green are two programmes synonymous with Bord Bia.   Through Origin Green, Bord Bia also equips producers with the knowledge and know-how to help drive sustainability improvements throughout the entire food and drink supply chain on a national level. 


Who we service?

  • Irish food, drink, and horticulture producers: Helping them market their products both domestically and internationally, by providing a full suite of supports and services to help Irish companies develop and implement their marketing strategies identifying high quality customers and consumers. 
  • International Customers: Promoting Irish products to global markets and facilitating trade relationships
  • Consumers: Educating both international and domestic consumers about the quality and sustainability of Irish food products through initiatives like the Bord Bia Quality Mark 
  • Industry stakeholders: Providing insights, research, and support to various stakeholders within the Irish food and drink industry.  

What we do?

Bord Bia is the semi-state agency responsible for the promotion of Irish Food, Drink and Horticulture. This role of Bord Bia is to act as a link between Irish food, drink and horticulture suppliers and existing and potential customers. Bord Bia’s main activities include trade, development, promotion, quality programmes, information and marketing finance.

Leaders Sustainability Acceleration Programme

Leaders Sustainability Acceleration Programme

A sustainability executive education programme, bespoke to the Irish food and drink industry run by Bord Bia in parnership with UCD Smurfit. Cost per participant is €4,500. Of a total cost of €9,000 - Bord Bia subsidises the fee by 50%

Origin Green Sustainability Programme Membership

Origin Green is Ireland's food and drink sustainability programme

Run by Bord Bia, it provides Irish food and drink companies with a sustainability framework and mentorship and guidance to develop a multi-annual sustainability plan and attain third party verification of the initial plan and progress against actions on an annual basis

Requirements:

  • Applicants must produce or handle food for human consumption.
  • Companies must have a minimum turnover of >€100,000 per annum to participate in the Origin Green Charter.
  • Applicants must have a ROI based production facility(ies) to be eligible to participate in the Origin Green Charter.
  • All manufacturing as it relates to inclusion in the Origin Green plan must be ROI based.
  • Applicants must be in production for a minimum of one full calendar year prior to applying for the Origin Green charter. This will ensure baseline data to develop sustainability targets is available from the outset.
  • Applicants must ensure they are formally registered as a Bord Bia client.
  • Primary meat processor with a turnover >€50 million (Tier 1 & 2) or operations defined by Bord Bia as high risk (any Tier) must be a member of the Bord Bia Food Processor Standard (FPS)
