The FSAI is a statutory, independent and science-based regulatory enforcement body

As Ireland's food safety and regulatory authority, the FSAI provides information and support to food businesses and those thinking of setting up a food business to assist with food safety compliance. The FSAI’s work includes building a culture of food safety, improving food safety within a risk analysis framework, leading a robust food safety control system and responding to emerging food safety risks

Who we are?

The FSAI is a statutory body that protects consumers’ health and interests by ensuring that food safety and hygiene standards are met when food is consumed, produced, distributed or marketed in Ireland. It is responsible for co-ordinating the enforcement of food safety legislation in Ireland. 

The FSAI’s goals include: 

  • Advocating for the importance of food safety to better protect consumers’ health and increase compliance.

  • Enhancing our ability to protect consumers’ health by managing risks that impact the safety and authenticity of food. 

  • Ensuring compliance with food law and taking appropriate enforcement action, to protect consumers within a national regulatory framework.

     


Who we service?

The FSAI’s vision of safe and trustworthy food for everyone can only be fulfilled through working closely with our stakeholders. The FSAI serves a broad range of stakeholders to ensure food safety in Ireland:

  • Food businesses (e.g., producers, retailers, caterers, etc.)
  • Government Departments and State agencies involved in public health, including the Department of Health, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, the Heath Service Executive (HSE) and the Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority,
  • Food safety professionals, including inspectors and regulators  
  • Consumers 

What we do?

The FSAI is an independent statutory body that ensures the safety of food in Ireland and Irish food abroad. It promotes food safety, provides expert advice, and collaborates with stakeholders. It leads on managing food risks, responding to food incidents, and strengthening Ireland’s regulatory capacity.

  • Promoting food safety and authenticity in the food industry •Providing accessible advice to food businesses to improve compliance
  • Collaborating with Government, State agencies and industry partners
  • Managing and communicating evidence-based advice about food risks
  • Leading and supporting the food safety inspectorate and enforcement system

Safe Catering Pack

Designed for caterers as a practical, easy-to-use, food safety management system

It is ideal for businesses that have not yet developed their own food safety management system but may also be used by businesses to improve existing systems. The Pack will support businesses to produce safe food, comply with food hygiene law, train staff, and protect the business' reputation.

Designed for caterers but is useful for any food business.

Food Safety & You Training Programme

The FSAI runs two-day train-the-trainer workshops for Food Safety & You each year

The Food Safety & You training programme is designed to be delivered in the business, by supervisors/managers to staff, or by consultants to client businesses. During this workshop, you will be taught how to deliver the induction level course to staff. 

Training & Programmes

The training programme is aimed at businesses who wish to become certified to deliver the induction level course to staff. The workshop will equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to deliver and assess the food safety skills included in the induction level training programme
