SEAI is Ireland’s national energy authority. We are at the heart of driving Ireland’s clean energy transition.

SEAI is the expert authority on decarbonising Ireland’s energy system, using robust, objective data and an evidence-based approach to help inform policy development and energy user behaviours. SEAI empowers businesses, households, motorists and the public sector to move away from fossil fuels with practical advice and financial supports. We encourage positive changes in how Ireland uses energy to deliver a more prosperous, energy efficient and cleaner environment.

SEAI is Ireland’s national sustainable energy authority. SEAI is funded by the Government of Ireland through the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment.

  • Households: We help households become more energy efficient, save money and reduce their carbon footprints.
  • Community: We help communities change the way they think about and use energy.
  • Public Sector: Public sector We help public sector bodies improve energy efficiency and reduce energy related greenhouse gas emissions
  • Researchers & Policymakers: We help policymakers and researchers by supporting and undertaking research and analysis that provides evidence and actionable insights to address challenges and optimise opportunities to accelerate the energy transition.

What we do?

We create a cleaner energy future through funding, research, support and certain regulatory functions, by putting the customer at the heart of what we do, by providing easy, excellent and accessible services to all. SEAI supports all businesses across Ireland to reduce energy use and lower operating costs. SEAI offers a number of supports and grants to become more competitive and efficient in the use of energy. Switch to electric vehicles and reduce your carbon footprint

Electric Vehicle Grants for Commercial Vehicles

This grant programme encourages the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in the commercial sector, promoting environmental sustainability and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Businesses that would like to purchase eco-friendly commercial vehicles.

You might be eligible if: 

  • You are introducing battery electric vehicles (BEVs) only (hybrids or plug-in hybrids not included)
  • You comply with the specific requirements and regulations outlined by the SEAI

Business Energy Upgrade Grant - Rapid Approval

This scheme provides substantial support to the SME sector to address energy costs and reduce emissions in their buildings, making them healthier, more comfortable and cheaper to run.

  • You are a small/medium sized business looking to carry out energy efficiency upgrades. 
  • Open to all business types.

Community Energy Grant

The SEAI Community Energy Grant isn't designed specifically for individual Irish businesses, but it can still be relevant. The program focuses on supporting initiatives that improve energy efficiency across entire communities, which can include businesses alongside homes and community buildings

Who is it for?

  • The SEAI Community Energy Grant isn't targeted towards specific business types since it focuses on community-wide projects. However, any Irish business located within a community applying for the grant could potentially benefit from the initiative

Grants to purchase solar panels and use solar energy

Non-Domestic Microgen Scheme

This grant aims to make solar energy more accessible for a wide range of small to medium sized businesses, by reducing the initial investment required to purchase and install solar panels.

Businesses that want to install solar panels for self-consumption.

You might be eligible if: 

  • You are a small to medium sized business
  • The agricultural sector
  • Public sector bodies
  • Schools
  • Community centres
  • Non-profit societies

Support for Large Energy Users in Ireland

Large Industry Energy Network (LIEN)

The SEAI Large Industry Energy Network (LIEN) is a program in Ireland that supports large energy users in improving their energy efficiency and reducing their carbon emissions.

The SEAI Large Industry Energy Network (LIEN) is for large energy users in Ireland. This specifically refers to companies with an annual energy spend of €1 million or more. These companies can be from any industry sector, but some examples include:

  • Manufacturing plants
  • Large data centres
  • Pharmaceutical companies
  • Food processing facilities
